No plans to ban messengers from operating in Russia — digital ministry

Maksut Shadayev clarified that a set of regulatory measures makes it possible to ensure the safe use of messengers "without banning them completely"

MOSCOW, April 24. /TASS/. Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media has no plans to disrupt the use of messengers, the department’s head Maksut Shadayev said at the Telecom of the Future – 2025 conference.

"We have no such plans. Our task is to achieve a balance between preserving the comfort of using the services for our citizens and reducing the opportunities for fraudsters to scam them," the minister said.

He clarified that a set of regulatory measures makes it possible to ensure the safe use of messengers "without banning them completely."
