CAIRO, June 8. /TASS/. The Gaza-based Palestinian movement Hamas has confirmed that Asaad Abu Sharia, the commander of the Mujahideen Brigades radical group (Kataeb al-Mujahideen) was killed in Israel’s strike on the Gaza Strip in a statement on its Telegram channel.
"Secretary General of the Mujahideen Brigades Asaad Abu Sharia and his brother Ahmed Abu Sharia were killed in Israel’s strike on Gaza City," the statement reads. Hamas noted that Israel has repeatedly tried to neutralize Sharia over the 25 years that he was part of Palestinian armed groups.
On Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that the radical group’s leader was eliminated in Gaza City. The army press service noted that the radicals from the Mujahideen Brigades were involved in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel and the abduction and captivity of hostages.
