BRUSSELS, June 16. /TASS/. Supporters of Ukraine within the Group of Seven (G7) have little hope that the member countries will be able to back Kiev or put pressure on Moscow at the G7 summit in Canada, European diplomats told the Politico newspaper.
Few of Ukraine's supporters around the G7 table "anticipate a coordinated effort to pressure Russia or support Kiev at the G7 summit," the diplomats said.
European leaders and a number of American lawmakers, primarily Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal, advocate lowering the price cap on Russian oil to $45 per barrel, but "US President Donald Trump has shown limited interest in the proposal," the paper noted.
In addition, Europe believes that the US leader will not support the senators' proposal to impose new restrictions on Russia, which would include import tariffs of 500% on goods from countries that buy oil, gas, uranium, and other products from Russia.
The G7 summit (United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Canada, United States, France, and Japan) is running from June 15 to June 17 in the Canadian resort area of Kananaskis (Alberta province).
